Last night went down a blast at our new live & free residency at the Adam & Eve. 3 truly special live sets and it was 4am before we could blink!

Thankfully we captured audio, video and photo’s thanks to Gary, Mike & Pyn, so if you weren’t there you can catch it on our site.

Munchbreak

In short though, Mikes set was the best he and us have seen of his one man live looping show, really vibing up the early crowd, and totally in his element.

Playing Django created something truly magical, with style, charm, and exceptional playing, taking us through a whole history and getting people dancing and shouting in equal appreciative measures.

Playing Django

And finally at almost 1am, Munchbreak quite simply rocked it, delivering an hour long crowd pleasing set with tight musicianship, great audience connection, and selling most of their cds before they’d even left the stage.

Our resident dj had the crowd jiving and moving with his new swing, and the sound engineer, bar staff, and security were among the friendliest we’ve met, delivering a stellar service.

What was really special was how many people had come out for the event. A friday night, with around a week of promotion, in between two bank holidays and it was full of fans of one or another of the acts, with loads of elephant regulars and lots of people who’d enjoyed the dj sets, coming to try something different.

Here’s some video clips we caught of the evening.

Party Rockin Mammal Sessions #9 w/ Boogie Dave & Subcitizen

marcreck » 27 April 2009 » In Events, Mr Elephant Presents » No Comments

This copied from our Mr Elephant website

The Party Rockin’ Mammal Sessions are back once again with summer drinks promos and not one, but two special guests joining our residents!

Boogie Dave (Drop Beats Not Bombs /My Bass / Rockfall)

Birmingham legend Boogie Dave will be bringing down his big box of Dubstep and Breaks to share with us. You may or not know the Drop Beats Not Bombs founder got himself in a spot of bother with the law over a certain radio broadcast earlier this year. After entering a plea of not guilty he awaits his day in Birmingham crown court on the 3rd September. So in true Boogie style we will be either celebrating or commiserating the verdict with a big party!

Follow the story here: http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=boogie+dave+bust&init=quick#/group.php?gid=25981501940&ref=search&sid=651055065.2917254007..1

Subcitizen (Resistor Records)
Subcitizen has spent years searching for the most experiemtal edges of any electronic genre he can find. The most glitchy elements are always on show whether he’s playing techno, electro, electronica, drum and bass, dubstep and much more. Expect to hear many genres you’re familiar with, but chopped and hacked up in ways you didn’t think were allowed!

Resident Marc Reck will of course join both of our guests on the decks. Expect the usual eclectic treats alongside the big breaks, dutty basslines, rolling drum and bass & jungle classics. He’ll be joined as always by Video Supremo, Blendstate Visuals who will be adding a beautiful layer of light to the proceedings.

This is going to be a phat party from beginning to end, so please turn up early to support us and the venue. We’ve got a massive 5 hours of music planned for you all – it would be a shame to only experience the last few hours now wouldn’t it! We’ve got a double happy hour in place to encourage you, running from 9- 11pm. Offers below:

2 bottles of beck for the price of 1 !!
Glens Dark Rum / Imperial Vodka Double £2!!
A bottle of house wine for £8 !!!
And shots of Tequila for £1 !!!

There’s also a summer rooftop terrace if you fancy a chill or a smoke.

So Friday 4th September, The Bulls Head, Moseley, £3 on the door. We look forward to seeing you all shake your thing very soon!
Much Love , Mr E xx

Booking Great Bands

marcreck » 20 April 2009 » In Djing, Events, Mr Elephant Presents » No Comments

Today i had a surprise call from Mr Adam Regan who informed us that Will Quantic had a new project, complete with video coming soon, and that he had date which fell on one we’d booked for the launch of Cinephonic, Liam Blendstates first Mr Elephant event which will seem him remix two films and me putting the soundtrack to it. An av night but geared towards the dancefloor.

Quantic’s new project seems perfect to allocate a slot of 90 minutes, so we now have him added to the bill for the launch night! I love it when things fit well like that!

Also today i’ve had my promoter head on for our live and free gigs and the big on on sat 23rd May, and it seems we have 98% confirmed the simply amazing Dub Fx, and for the live gig on the 30th we have the 8 piece Paper Tiger, who you may not have heard of yet, but they are reported to be amazing live by our designer who saw them in Crotia.

Also on the cards are Alphadrive, another recommendation on the more subsource type vibe, who have kindly sent me some tracks, (one of which made this weeks breaks reviews for the Night Times), and the other band on quite a different note is the Heels, who i’ve been hoping to book for while now, and today confirmed a date for Sat June 20th at our new live home at the adam.

I’ve also just bought some killer tracks, and so am off to do a mix for The Lab’s Vj Tony, who needs a 30 minute promo for his germany tour.

Poltergeist (Perc Remix) - Perc
Glance feat. Nikki Carabello (V2.2 Mix( - DJ Icey
Precinct – Stanton Warriors
EDLX Tool - Speedy J
Maggie Toy 1 - Speedy J, Chris Liebing
The Windey Man – Justin Maxwell

Wish it wasnt so late so i could have a bit more volume tho….

Party Rockin Mammal Sessions # 4

Our 4th Party Rockin Mammal Sessions @ The Bulls Head in Moseley, Birmingham was one of our favourite, diverse, but equally party rockin, with Funk and Breaks from our special guest Badaboon, and Swing, Breaks, and Drum and Bass from our resident Marc Reck. Really filmic visuals from Liam Blendstate and superb door hosting from our workshop and performance co-ordinator Pyn. And the mammals on the floor were legendary.

Poster 4 for mammal sessions

We’re a bit behind with all the events, as the websites been away for a couple of months now, but we did get some great pics and some video…. Video’s always the best on the web anyway right?

A full set of piccies are hosted on Marc’s flickr account here

The Night Presents – Our 1st 5 Hour Set!?! – Fri 4th April 2009

marcreck » 05 April 2009 » In Dj Gigs, Djing » No Comments

Sat night was my first 5 hour set for the first of the Night Times Presents events at the Hare. and Hounds main room, and also the official Night Times awards party. We got certificates, there were no “I’d like to thank..” speeches (thankfully) and while it was a top night, i do today wish i’d have took my ear plugs!

Weird seeing my big face on a poster, but ultimately makes you put the work in and inspired us to try something new. (Photo by Dave Piper). So last week i bought, borrowed and stole hundreds of new records, from swing, to trip hop, to funk, to breaks, and a load of drum and bass. I also decided to try out my new laptop and traktor scratch pro.

To be fair i think it was a little early to be using traktor pro, as my mind was constantly looking to the cd wallet for records. It was a good lesson to realise that actually even though you select loads of records into various playlists, if you only heard them a few times, it’s difficult to play with them well.

Set was great though, and i was a little worried about us being in the main room as it can feel pretty big in there if it’s not too full. Luckily though it got nice and busy throughout the night, and even the start was good as we had 50th birthday party turn up right as the doors opened. Kinda changed my plan of reggae, trip hop and scratching, but they wanted to dance, and thats my role, regardless of wanting to show the diversity!

The new swing that i’ve been digging for this week, went down a storm, and the correspondants were on hot rotation, along with parov stellar, cherry poppin daddies, caravan place, etc. Also electro swing feeds nicely into electro house, which feeds nicely into breaks, and then as we built up, a lil techno, and then  into liquid drum and bass, then jungle, building up until we got to the heavy spor with some nice respite from Harry Belafonte as the encore.

I’d like to have another go at the event, as felt i would have like to not have played so blind so much, but seemed to go well, and load of kind comments at the end.

Liam Blendstate was also on the visuals that night, and while i was facing the wrong way, he had a good one by all accounts.

UPDATE -  Our good mate Smokedog and his new camera was out in full force once we’d got to the breaks part of the set, and captured a fair bit of footage of the night, so for anyone who fancies a look, here it is –
