Custom Made with Jon Kennedy & Dj Derek

17 December 2007 No Comment

In between unpacking boxes in our new place, i got to dj another magical Custom Made after the legendary Dj Derek, and the inspired Jon Kennedy. Here’s a few of my favourite bits

Me & Pyn arrived in the middle of Dj Derek’s set, hearing a lot of the classic soul & reggae tunes he often warms venues with. There was a nice mix of people, and the production of the event and special touches were as inviting as ever, with a host of xmas style additions (including a fireplace!), and a very nice warm heater. There was a great mix of music inside as well as out, with the sublime Loafers Lounge, and the dubstep maestro Boogie Dave toasting the bar, and Mark the Custom Made custodian spinning some gorgeous music before Dj Derek.

The Mash vjs were on full form outside with a marathon 9 hour set, and Jon Kennedy played a great mix of downtempo, with some nice upbeat treats to tease and tantalise. I was well geared to try and take my last custom made set up a notch, with a load of new mr elephant style tunes ready in my head to warm it up into the big stuff. However, after a few requests to tear it up, and a couple of great drum n bass tunes from Jon, all that went out the window and i decided to launch straight into the big breaks!! (Well the mr men first, but then all the big booty breaks).

The crowd are so open and mixed at Custom Made, i think i would have preferred to have done the Mr Elephant stylee first, as while it got things nicely moving, i started to feel a bit disconnected at times in the first half. Nevertheless a broken record, and some jazzy drum n bass bought it all back to the middle, and we got the whole floor full and proper rockin in true custom made stylee :) I can’t think of anything very interesting to say as i’m pretty exhausted, so i’ll sign off, and thank the delectable Pyn for the video, and wish you all a very Merry Xmas.
