Reckommended Records – Nov / Dec 2012

Submitted by on December 10, 2012 – 16:32No Comment

Here are 8 tracks, 4  albums & 7 free downloads over 6 (isn) genres in my slightly belated recommended reviews for the last couple of months.

Downtempo Electronica

Albert – Lucky – Studio Rockers – Absolutely gorgeous track here from electronic maestro Albert on the consistently excellent Studio Rockers label. Deep emotional lyrics beautifully sung to a beautiful deep soundtrack which sits somewhere between electronica and deep dubstep. I’m making sure this is in the next Coming Home mix.

Glitch Hop

Mr Bill – Suave Album – Free Download – Recently i came across a link for a ep by Mr Bill called suave which had been out since 2010. Mr Bill writes awesome glitch hop, and did a collab with Bram Richards which features on my last glitch hop mix, which was my 1st intro to his work and this is well worth checking out. I particularly like

Marc Reck vs Redman & Method Man – How High (Dj Narrative Prequel Mix) – Free Download - I had a crack at glitch hop at the start of 2012 & posted in back in July. Its had some nice feedback and even props from the mighty Uk Glitch Hop channel, so i thought id post in my reviews for anyone who wants to grab a copy.

Skeewiff Vs Johann Pachelbell – Canon in Dub (Re-Wiff Skeemix) – Free Download) - Classic reggae inspired classical remash here from hugely talented Skeewiff. Great production alongside skeewiff’s trademark catchy lighthearted vibe equal a smile frenzied dance floor.

Silas Wood – The Man From Impossible – Independent released Album – Brummie musician extraordanoire Silas Wood has released a new album and its a great release. spanning a host of genres. Silas himself is immersed in the local scene playing guitar for the Heels, bass and production for the Acoustic Theatre, double bass and programming electrickery for deWolfe, and double bass for ‘Playing’ Django’. Three tracks on the album are my personal favourites – the glitch hop influenced Robots 2 – and the barry adamson esque dub style soundtrack opener El Nino and the afrobeat funk style rhythms of The airmail track. I imagine he’s played all the instruments himself and that alone should be worth checking it out.

Lee Coombs & The Drumattic Twins Tribal Tension (Kostas G Remix) – Free Download - Solid remix of a classic track here which retains the feel of the original but takes into slightly different avenues. One for any tech funk breaks lovers for free / pay what you like goodness.

Hyper – Machine (Mesmer Remix) – Distinctive Records – I don’t think I’ve heard mesmer put out a bad breaks track and this is no difference. Plenty of lush atmospherics coupled with his super crisp production and rollin breakbeats – Out now!

Deekline & Ed Solo – Bounce & Shake Album – Bass Boutique –  is a new ep from booty bass party starters Deekline and Ed Solo. With some big collaborations from some of my favourite mcs – millionaire dollar, tenor fly, etc, you can expect some sure fire party starting ammo for your sets. Its a big release in terms of 20 or so tracks. My tastes gravitate towards a few of those like party breaks tracks like Reload with Millionaire Dan or Tenor fly on the reggae breaks party tune dancehall tribute, or a solid dnb  remix of no no no.

ill Gates & Datsik – Ill Methodology Remixed - Free Download  - In honour of Ill Methodology remix album – theres a phat free download up for grabs with some heavy hitters at the helm. The whole albums well worth checking out for anyone even vaguely interested in their remix.

Tigerstyle Feat Sarbjeet Kaur & Billa Bakshi - Ay-Ha! (Kumarachi Remix) - Solid Soldier - This literally came out the day after i posted my reviews so im including it this month due to the fact that this remix is a big dirty bass wobbling dubstep strider. Its the lead horns that really take it through and while it doesn’t destroy any boundaries it will most likely devastate the dubstep floors..

Figure – This is Halloween – Doom Records – Remember a guy called Figure who did a dubstep remix of beetlejuice in last months reviews? Well who  better to put together a whole 2 volume of filthy drum step and dubstep tracks all based around the halloween theme. Featuring plenty of spooky horror style hooks and big dirty massive patches this is sure to be a big hit with the heavy dubstep massive.

Flim – Invaders – Mutate to Survive – Any fans of classic sven vath are going to love this release. Really reminds me of old mixes i used to have by Sven and verging on the hart house sound which i have always been a big fan of. Think that describes it well enough so go check it out in december if you do too

3 Phase Generator  - Array (Simon Owen Remix) - Mutate to Survive - New remix from xetechno label boss simon owen also on Mutate to survive though on a much more rolling techno tip. Solid track.

Drum & Bass

Brian Owen – Stay or let it go (Sabre Remix) – Free Download -  Beautiful soulful dnb remix on the free dl here from legendary drum & Bass producer sabre. Lovely stuff.

The Upbeats – Undertaker – Free Download - Massive techy drum and bass with plenty of filth here from the upbeats. I first became aware of them from their big skeleton track which has set off many a dancefloor. if you know and like that then  you’ll more than likely love this.
