”a disturbing, lurching assault on the senses” (according to the Birmingham Post!)
They also went on to say “Project X is an intelligent and unique show destabilising the established role of the “spectator” in performance theatre and drawing you into an impressively eclectic and complex mix of art forms”. Nice!

So tonights the big night, and things are most definately on course for something very large
Last night we had our full dress rehearsal, and i’m most pleased to say it went through nice and smoothly, highlighting what needs to be done, and realising that we’ve most definitly got something very special for our audience tonight. I was trying wherever possible last night, to look from the the eyes of an audience member, who may not be aware of the hero’s jounrney, or of the narrative behind the show, and i really did feel like i was taken on a journey, both internally from an emotional point of view, and externally from the flow of this “omnimedia” show…

And it really does feel like it!
After a couple more rehearsals in the studio, i got down to the rainbow warehouse about 6pm for my soundcheck. Everyone was hard at work on their different sections, with sets being painted, lights being programmed, stages being dressed, visuals being edited, performance being refined, sound being checked and perfected, and the ever imperative marketing and show co-ordination being managed with seemlingly a lot more flow than last year. There was a lot more going on than that, but instead of listing them, here’s a few pictures, (though my camera ran out of charge quite quickly)…

After 4 days flued up, i’ve now left the warmer place, and am back onto what is quite probably my biggest dj experience to date.
On one hand it will be the most exhilarating dj set i can muster, with a firm intention to make as many people in that room, dance, jump, smile and really enjoy themselves, after what will hopefully have been a most magical evenings entertainment.
On the other hand, the dj set is strongly based around the narrative of the hero’s journey, and also to the Project X …

Last night i attended our weekly meeting before the our forthcoming Project X Presents event , and the excitement and anticipation is just as high as it seems to be on the street!
Check my dad in the audience! (What a star!)With the lighting, tech and visual and set people now massaging their talents into the narrative, this thing we’ve all been working on for over a year now, is almost going to be real! I spent all day making cds of the music one for the performers, one for people …

There’s been so much going on with our forthcoming Project x Presents Show, i’ve realised just how little i have been blogging about it. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows for everyone involved, and there’s so much going on behind the scenes every day with the performance, narrative, music, etc i’m going to try harder to put my blogging hat on a little more frequently to tell you about it, starting with the line up…

After another steward session, this time cut short thanks to some bloke not turning up for his security post in a shop somewhere in dudley, i met up with one of my best friends, the inspiring Elin. While we was suppin on a pint in the Rainbow i had an great chat with Kent, about Project X, his Rainbow warehouse, and about all this creative talent in Birmingham and how we can pool our resources, to acheive the same profile as other major cities.
A couple of hours later i …

The other half of the two days a week event management course i am currently on at the Bond in Digbeth, is a day with Les the security guard, who takes us through a series of workbooks all about stewarding. Not really my (or anyone else’s bag), but essential for the full qualification, and is fairly interesting, despite the subject matter.
I was therefore pleased to find that there were some music workshops from 3-5pm, from the providers of my new deal for musicians course – Armstrong Learning, who were having …

A few months back, my girlfriend Pyn embarked on a mask making course exploring Joseph Campbell’s The Heroes Journey, and it has since developed into a narrative for the forthcoming Project X Presents show, (and now the aforementioned opening set at the next Drop Beats Not Bombs event).
You will have come across the Hero’s Journey if you’ve seen the films“Star Wars” or “The Matrix”. George Lucas was apparently very friendly with Joseph Campbell, and his work on archetypes and the common threads has proved inspiring to a huge portion of …
